Somatic Experiencing is a form of alternative therapy aimed at relieving the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental and physical trauma-related health problems by focusing on the client's perceived body sensations (or somatic experiences).
Our body receives thousands of messages on a daily basis.Sometimes the messages get “stuck” in our system and we are unable to discharge/process them in an effective fashion. Somatic awareness helps us tune into the messages from our body and opens up an understanding of how the physical sensations we experience correlate to patterns of stress, tension or trauma.
This one-on-one session of tuning in helps us to “tune up” our most important machinery; ourselves. A greater physical awareness improves many functions of the body, including improved digestion and sleep and effective management of emotions. This can create profound and deep levels of relaxation, resulting in a heightened state of health and well-being.
